Lucky Sevens: 7 Athletes, 7 Schools, 7 Podiums at Sydney North PSSA
Seven athletes, seven different primary schools, seven podium results between them. That's how the squad's Sydney North PSSA Championship went at Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre on 21 September. A big weather swing through the middle of the day (29.7°C at 9am down to 18.8°C by 3pm, with a 48km/h gust just before midday) makes the afternoon times harder than they look.
Stephen Harvey, Beaumont Road
- 1st Shot Put 2kg: 10.03m
- 1st Long Jump: 4.56m
- 2nd 200m: 29.23s
- 3rd High Jump: 1.38m
- 4th 100m: 14.32s
- 4th Discus 500g: 29.52m
Six events, five top-4 finishes, two golds and a silver. Big day, and disappointed that he hit the bar with his elbow having cleared 1.44m at least twice already this season.
Paige Liu, Ernington
- 1st High Jump: 1.28m
- 6th Long Jump: 3.60m
- 10th 100m: 15.87s
Time poor due to officiating issues, and once Paige secured top spot she attempted the record at 1.46m. Also ran a 100m PB in the heat, 15.03s.
Huxley Richardson, Asquith
- 2nd Long Jump: 5.25m
- 5th 800m: 2:31.50
- 6th 1500m: 5:07.35
Silver in a Long Jump where the carnival record fell to 5.36m. Some blisters played a part in his load management, and that plagued his High Jump (NH) result.
Viaan Pahal, Willoughby
- 3rd Long Jump: 4.43m
- 14th 100m: 14.61s
Two personal bests and state qualified!
Bogdan "Bole" Nesovanovic, Kent Road
- 4th Long Jump: 4.93m
- 6th Shot Put 3kg: 9.06m
- 7th High Jump: 1.35m
Top 8 in all three field events he entered. Perhaps not the events we would usually see Bole contest this late in the season, and shows the growth and dedication to training over the last 6 months.
Thoma Nozawa, West Ryde
- 4th 200m: 29.74s
- 6th Long Jump: 4.42m
- 10th 100m: 14.73s
Thoma also ran quicker in the morning and focused on the speed today, leaving his traditional distance 800/1500 combo for another competition.
Izzy Cornelius, Lane Cove
- 7th 200m: 31.11s
- 10th 100m: 15.10s
Newcomer Izzy will take her new found strengths and join the rest of the junior messa athletes at a dedicated and structured summer training season. Welcome!
Three golds, two silvers and two bronze from seven athletes on a day the weather had as much say as anyone.
