MESSA App Terms and Privacy
Last updated: 9 October 2026
These terms and this privacy notice cover the MESSA app for iPhone and any version for other devices we release later (the "app"). The app is run by Maximum Effort Speed & Strength Academy ("MESSA", "we", "us"), based in Sydney, Australia. Questions: coach@maximumeffort.academy.
Our general store privacy policy and terms of service still cover purchases on this website. Where this page and those differ about the app, this page applies.
Part A. Terms of use
1. Who can use the app
Anyone can use the calculators without an account. To save runs you need an account. If you are under 16, a parent or guardian must set up the account or give you permission to use it. Parents and guardians can add their children as athletes on their own account; children added this way do not need a login.
2. Your account
You can sign in with an email and password, Apple, Google, or an Athletics Australia member ID and your password. Keep your sign-in details private. You are responsible for what happens on your account and for the athletes you add to it. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has used it.
3. MESSA squad links and coaches
If an athlete trains with MESSA, you can ask to link them to their name on the MESSA squad list. A MESSA coach checks and accepts the link. Once it is accepted, MESSA coaches can see the hurdle runs saved for that athlete. Before a link is accepted, and for athletes who are not linked, coaches cannot see your runs. You can stop sharing with coaches at any time from Profile.
4. Sharing an athlete with another login
The account that first adds an athlete owns that athlete. The owner can share the athlete with another login, for example an athlete and their parent. Everyone the athlete is shared with can see and add to the same runs and history. Only the owner can delete the athlete or remove someone's access, and anyone can stop using an athlete that was shared with them.
5. Videos
When you film a run or time a run from a video, the video stays on your device. We do not upload or store your videos. If you choose to save a video to your Photos, it is kept by your device, not by us.
6. Results, projections and safety
Times, splits and projected finish times are estimates to help training. They depend on when you tap and on the accuracy of your device, and are not official results. Squad results shown in the app come from MESSA's records and may be updated or corrected. The app is not medical advice. Train within your ability and under suitable supervision, and stop if you feel pain or are unwell.
7. MESSA Pro and payments
Some features may need a paid MESSA Pro subscription. MESSA squad athletes with an accepted squad link get these features as part of their squad membership.
- MESSA Pro is bought in the app through the Apple App Store (and, when available, Google Play). The price, the length of each period and what is included are shown before you buy.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. You can cancel or manage your subscription in your Apple ID settings (or Google Play account). Cancelling stops future renewals; the current period stays active until it ends.
- Refund requests for purchases made through Apple or Google go to Apple or Google under their refund policies.
- Coaching packages and sessions are bought separately through this website and are covered by our website terms.
Nothing in these terms removes rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law or the consumer laws of your country.
8. Using the app fairly
Do not use the app to break the law, to access other people's data, to add athletes you have no right to manage, to interfere with the app or its systems, or to copy or resell its content. We may suspend or close accounts that do.
9. Our content
The app, its design, calculators, touchdown charts, workouts and programs belong to MESSA or our licensors. You may use them for your own training. Your training data stays yours; you give us permission to store and display it so the app works.
10. Liability
We provide the app as it is and work to keep it accurate and available, but we cannot promise it will always be error free or uninterrupted. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect loss, or for injury that results from training decisions made using the app. Where the Australian Consumer Law or other law gives you guarantees that cannot be excluded, our liability is limited to supplying the service again or paying for it to be supplied again, where the law allows that limit.
11. Apple and Google
If you downloaded the app from the Apple App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. These terms are between you and MESSA, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content, has no obligation to provide support for it, and is a third party beneficiary of these terms. The same applies to Google if you download the app from Google Play.
12. Changes and ending your account
We may update the app and these terms. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app or by email before it applies. You can stop using the app at any time and ask us to delete your account (see Part B, section 6).
Part B. Privacy
1. What we collect
- Account: your name, email address and how you sign in (email, Apple, Google). If you sign in with Apple and hide your email, we only see Apple's private relay address.
- Athletes you add: name, and if you choose to add them, gender, year of birth and Athletics Australia member ID.
- Training data: hurdle runs (event, date, venue, hurdle heights and spacing, touchdown times, finish times, and whether the run was timed live, from a video or typed in), training sessions you log (type, effort rating and how it felt), and squad link and sharing requests.
- MESSA squad results: for athletes linked to the squad, results entered by MESSA coaches.
- Not collected: your videos, your location, your contacts, or advertising identifiers. We do not show ads.
2. How we use it
To run the app: sign you in, save and show your runs and charts, show squad results to linked athletes, let coaches see accepted squad athletes, send account emails such as password resets, and, if you subscribe, manage MESSA Pro. We also use it to fix problems and improve the app. We do not sell personal information or use it for advertising.
3. Who we share it with
- MESSA coaches, only for athletes with an accepted squad link, and other logins the owner has shared an athlete with.
- Service providers who run parts of the app for us: Supabase (database and sign-in), Apple and Google (sign-in and app stores), Resend (account emails), Google Workspace (MESSA results records) and, for subscriptions, our in-app purchase provider. They may only use the information to provide their service to us.
- Others only where the law requires it.
4. Where it is stored
The app's database is hosted by Supabase in Singapore. Our service providers may also process information in the United States and other countries where they operate. We choose providers with strong security and privacy commitments, and we remain responsible for how your information is handled.
5. Children
Children's details are added by their parent or guardian, who manages them. Coaches see a child's runs only after the parent links the child to the MESSA squad and a coach accepts. Parents can ask us to correct or delete their child's information at any time.
6. Keeping and deleting your information
We keep your information while your account is open. You can ask us to delete an athlete you added, or your whole account, by emailing us from the address on the account; we will delete it and the runs saved on it within 30 days. Options to remove an athlete and delete your account in the app's Profile screen are being added before public release. Squad results entered by MESSA coaches are part of MESSA's training records and are kept separately; you can ask us about these too.
7. Your choices and rights
You can see and update most of your information in the app. You can ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to delete it, by emailing us. If you are not happy with how we handled your information, contact us first and we will respond within 30 days.
8. Security
Information is sent over encrypted connections, and database access rules mean each login can only reach its own athletes and those shared with it. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you, we will tell you as the law requires.
Part C. Where you live
Australia
We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). If you are not satisfied with our response to a privacy complaint, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law are not affected by these terms.
New Zealand
You have rights under the Privacy Act 2020, including to access and correct your information, and you can complain to the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 where it applies.
United Kingdom and European Union
We process your information to provide the app you asked for (contract), to keep it secure and improve it (legitimate interests), and where you agree (consent, which you can withdraw). You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing, and to data portability. When your information is stored outside the UK or EU, we rely on our providers' standard contractual safeguards. You can complain to your data protection authority, such as the Information Commissioner's Office in the UK.
United States
The app is not directed at children under 13 using their own accounts; children are added and managed by a parent or guardian. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising. Residents of states with privacy laws, including California, can ask to know, correct or delete their information by emailing us.
Other countries
If you use the app elsewhere, you keep any rights your local law gives you. Contact us and we will help.
